Flash Fiction Portrush

What is Flash Fiction Portrush?

Flash Fiction Portrush is the new younger sibling of Flash Fiction Armagh.

At Flash Fiction Portrush writers read their work to an audience at an event in the Town Hall, Portrush. It differs from an Open Mic in that the readers are selected ahead of time, based on submission quality.

Why?

We aim to encourage people to write Flash Fiction pieces which they will then perform in public. We also want to entertain and provide an opportunity for writers to mingle and make friends, encouraging people to attend the event whether they write, read or prefer to listen. Also, Authors are welcome to bring copies of their books to sell.

And the best reason of all – it’s a bit of craic. Flash Fiction Armagh is based on Flash Fiction Forum San Jose, California. Visit their website to see how they do things.

Tips on how to craft a piece of Flash Fiction

1. Focus on a specific moment or event which conveys strong emotion or conflict.

2. Develop 1-2 well-rounded characters with concise descriptions and actions.

3. Try starting ‘in medias res’ (in the middle of the action).

4. Within 700 words have a clear beginning, middle, and end

         (not necessarily in that order).

5. Beginning and Ending sentences and the Title must have impact.

6. Edit! Edit! Edit! to trim down unnecessary words or details

7. Surprising twists will enhance the story.
